Can You Get a Magazine for a Shotgun?
Depending on the type of shotgun you have, the answer is usually “Yes, you can get a magazine for a shotgun.”
- For break-action/breechloaders, you cannot get a magazine because those models don't use them and are single-shot (or double-barreled).
- Lever-action shotguns typically have a tube-fed magazine. Depending on the shotgun’s model, you can often get shorter or longer mag tubes. A shorter tube would be to make the shotgun legal for certain hunting restrictions or to match the length of the barrel if you swap it out. Longer magazine tubes, or magazine extensions, allow you to increase the capacity of your shotgun for home/self-defense.
- Pump-action and semiautomatic shotguns also most often have tube-fed magazines, and everything above also applies.
- There are shotguns with detachable magazines that work the same as the type of detachable magazines found on semiautomatic pistols and rifles. Like any other detachable magazines, you can find replacements or extras quite easily. These are able to be carried in Ammo Pouches like you would an AR mag, which is much handier than a bunch of loose shotshells in your pocket.
