In 1970, John Paulson decided he wanted a better pitching machine to help his sons practice. Mr. Paulson did some research and quickly found that while there were a number of pitching machines on the market at the time, few were any good, and none were durable or transportable enough for widespread use. Also, none were able to throw a decent curveball. With very specific functionality in mind, Mr. Paulson built the first JUGS pitching machine, and a year later he started the JUGS Company, which was named after the baseball saying, "jug handle curve." But his innovations for baseball didn't end with his fantastic new pitching machine (which helped numerous teams throughout the country win championships), as a few years later Danny Litwhiler, a college baseball coach, approached Mr. Paulson about designing a radar gun specifically for baseball. The Great American Pastime would never be the same.
