These polystyrene tube closures are designed to fit snugly on a wide variety of 16mm microbiological tubes. The polystyrene tubing latch ensures that the tube cannot be prematurely opened, even with a force exerted by the force of gravity. In addition, the plasticity of the material and the notch on the closure ensures that the tube cannot be crushed. For this reason, they are used in many reference laboratories as an indicator of viable cells; however, they should not be used in diagnostic procedures such as cytology or histology. The polystyrene tubing ensures that cells will not be released from the tubing even with a gentle nucleic acid such as glycerol or heparinous solutions. When gamma irradiated (EtO) treatment of plant tissue sections, tissue homogenates and urine sediments should not be taken from such tissue samples since the in vitro reducing activity is not stimulated. Discreetly marked, large white SAV-IT* tubing is easily cut with scissors or a hobby saw to remove large pieces by sawing or even whole tubes. Autoclavable, gas (EtO) sterilized, gamma-irradiated (EtO) sterilization is recommended.
