This does not have a barrel nut, this is Aero Precision's Enhanced upper receiver which has the barrel nut built into the end of the upper receiver. The handguard bolts directly to the receiver as a result.

M4E1s absolutely have a barrel nut, this one should come with one and requires a COP barrel nut wrench, which may not be included. The upper receiver has a proprietary mounting surface for the handguard and gas tube pass through.
