The manufacturer doesn't specify the detection range of the Burris BTS 50 3.3-13.2x50mm Thermal Rifle Scope. I recommend contacting the manufacturer in regards to that information.
I live out west and shoot long range (500-1000 yards). We have deer frequently around our cabin. The farthest I've seen them and been able to tell it was a deer and not an antelope, fox, etc, was 230 yards. Beyond that the crispness of the image was degraded and the deer ears were a lot more round and not nearly as discearnable. I would honestly say this thermal is best inside 200 yards. If you're looking for something that will get you out to 400+ then you need to look at spending 6-10k.
