RH's Review of American Built Arms Company MOD-X GEN III Modular Rifle System

I looked for a long time for a replacement chassis for my Remington 700-AAC-SD. The rubber OEM Hogue stock is adequate, at best. There aren't a lot of these AB Arms stock out in the wild, though those who are running them speak highly of them. I am now in that camp. This Gen 3 chassis is an upgrade from their earlier versions and this one is just about 100%. The fit and finish on this chassis is comparable to that you'd see on a $2K chassis. Fully fitted, this chassis is right at $1K. Light weight but rugged, this is a no brainer upgrade. This chassis makes your rifle sub-moa out of the box. Pair this with an aftermarket trigger and you have a fairly priced precision rifle. I purchased the folding version in burnt bronze. The color looks very nice and breaks up the black on the rifle. There is no need to take this to a gunsmith to change it out as the instructions are clear and concise. The keymod free float hand guard and rail provides plenty of real estate for accessories. The adjustable shooter stock is very nice and highly adaptable. I have recently ordered the optional rubber recoil pad that screws on to the polymer stock. My only gripes deal with the stock grip and the lock up of the folding stock. The OEM grip is suitable for small handed shooters only. It is so thin that I question its existence on a piece of kit that otherwise is very nice. Finally, while there are adjustment bushings built in to the folding stock, it is impossible to take out all of the play when the stock is extended. It seems like there ought to be a way to lock the stock to take up the slack. Don't get me wrong, I am talking about extremely minimal movement, but when shooting long distance every bit of movement counts. Also, be aware that if you plan to shoot long distance with this chassis, it ships with a 0 moa rail. I ordered the optional 20 moa rail and installed it with the original purchase. This chassis is still worth every penny and attracts quite a bit of attention when people first see it. I suspect that you will see more of these in competition and at ranges very soon.
