Hornady makes great cartridges, components, and reloading equipment but this device cannot accurately indicate runout when the measurement is taken at the bullet. I got their concentricity gauge because I was intrigued with the bullet straightening feature. When I followed the included instructions to measure run-out at the bullet ogive I was surprised to see only about 0.0015". The Hornady instructions say 0.001 to 0.002 is acceptable runout but my Sinclair concentricity gauge was showing 0.010" and bullet wobble was very obvious when the cartridge was rolled on a flat table top!! The answer to this discrepancy is that the Hornady device holds the cartridge at the BULLET POINT and the case head and this means there can't be movement at those points!! No movement equals no measured runout regardless of how bad the bullet is misaligned with the case! The closer the reading is taken to the bullet tip the more the measured run-out will be skewed to a smaller value. The bullet ogive is only about a quarter of an inch from the bullet tip so reading run-out there gives a very small value regardless of the actual misalignment of the bullet with the case. If the gauge is to be used at all, the measurement should be made on the case neck which is further from the bullet tip and would still provide some cartridge concentricity information. See Dave Scovill's article in August 2016 Handloader Magazine where he says the same thing for the Bonanza Co-Ax Indicator which is similar to the H
Great clean inside and outside cases. Good size for small batches. Commercial cleaning fluid works fine and is easy to use. Takes about 24 minutes for complete cleaning. I follow by tumbling to get a like new shine.
