Timbo's Review of Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56 Rifle Scope, 35mm Tube, First Focal Plane

First I should say that 95% of the optics that I own or have owned are or have been Leupold. I have used friends and family’s US Optics, Steiner, Schmidt&Bender also. Having had Redfields, Simmons, Tasco, Weaver, Zeiss, Vortex, Leica, Burris, Nikon, Bushnell, etc etc over the last 55years I always seem to come back to Leupold. I have had many of their different models (Straight power, variable power, VariX ll & lll, Mk4 etc etc). No Mk6 or Mk8 to date. This scope is my first Mk5 and I must say it is an amazing scope. Obviously I haven’t had a ton of time on range with it yet. It is currently mounted on a Tikka T3 TAC A1 6.5Creedmore. But so far I’m very very impressed and I like all the new turret features. Tracking has been outstanding. As a Company Leupold has never let me down. I’ve had scopes sent to them to change reticle types and they are always fast, professional and do great work. I’ve never needed their warranty services but I have had friends and acquaintances that have been super happy when they used those services. This particular scope has the Horus 59 reticle which is the first Christmas tree style reticle I have owned. I’ve always used the earlier military style mil-dot reticle in most of my higher end scopes. I haven’t had the time or weather conditions to take the gun/scope past the 500meter line. But... to that point with severe wind and dust blowing 20-40 mph, with 50 rounds, the scope performed beautifully. Can’t wait to get back out and use the heck out of it. I recommend it highly.
Pros:
  • Clarity, eye relief, large turrets, wind turret cover, elevation turret condition markers, zero lock,
Cons:
  • none so far
Best Used for:
  • Precision Rifle Shooters and Professional snipers
Would Recommend: Yes
