A good buy - Night Owl Night Vision Explorer Marine Pro 5x Waterproof Monoculars - NOCX5M

Bought one recently and have used quite a bit. The optics are very good and quite reliable for a Gen I. I have been in the military for more than two decades so I have used many NV devices, and for the price this one is hard to beat. Remeber however that with 5X magnification this is not intended for viewing at ultra short range though last night I was able to scope a pair of cottontails browsing at around 30' without too much difficulty. They run on a single 3V li battery which run about $12 a pair at retail outlets and a long night of viewing, especially while using IR will chew up a battery but if you look around on ebay and other places you can buy rechargables for pretty reasonable sums. My best friend has a Nightowl 2X and it has been good to him also so I really feel comfortable recommending this item.
Pros: Visually Clear, good range
Cons: Batteries are pricey
