I purchased this surf rod June 5, 2025. I was a little apprehensive buying from OpticsPlanet but the price was great with free shipping. The rod was shipped via UPS. When the rod was delivered to my Brigantine, NJ home, I was appalled at the condition of the box. The UPS driver said it is the way it was shipped and said to enjoy the surf rod. He was able to see right into the box and determine its contents. The rod was a 2-piece, 10 foot rod. Why was it in a 9 foot, partially destroyed box, held together with tape? It should have been in a shipping tube or triangle box. (I do have pics) Luckily, the rod was NOT damaged. Rod description states 6 guides and a tip. There are only 5 guides and a tip. The rod pairs perfectly with a Penn Pursuit IV 6000 with 20lb test. I have been fishing for well over 50 years. My first cast, while up to my knees in the Atlantic, resulted in the butt end popping off, never to be seen again. Disappointing to say the least. The rod itself has great action. I caught a 28" striper that day! It was not worth it to contact OpticsPlanet over the butt end falling off or the terrible packaging, since the rod was not damaged. I am contemplating purchasing the 9' Squadron SQDSFIII1220S90 from OpticsPlanet.
