Homer's Review of Safariland Model 1051 ALS Shoulder Holster

I purchased this shoulder holster rig for concealed carry while driving a truck. In my younger days, I carried my full sized Glock on my hip while driving. Due to my aging back and putting on a few pounds, this method of carry was no longer comfortable.
I have worn this shoulder rig for a couple of months now, and I like it. It is comfortable while driving. I have no trouble accessing the gun from a seated position. The release mechanism takes practice to use it smoothly, but this is normal. You must practice the draw without having to look away from any threat just as you must practice with any other new equipment or new tactical moves.
The holster seems to be durable and should hold up to regular use. The release mechanism works quite well so far and gun retention should be no problem from that standpoint. The straps and clips feel a bit flimsy and may be the weakest part of this shoulder rig. I have not had any problems with the straps thus far, they just feel a bit lightweight. The one thing I don't like about this product is that the clips that secure the straps in place to your clothing are too small for my hands to manipulate them open and then to clip them onto my pants or belt. I have large hands this may be the cause of my difficulty. I can do it but it takes longer than it should.
Overall, I would recommend this product to those who are looking for a secure but comfortable shoulder carry option.
Pros:
  • secure and safe retention
  • comfortable & durable
Cons:
  • Small attachment clips
Best Used for:
  • Driving & outdoor use.
