willyj's Review of SIG SAUER Romeo4H Red Dot Sight with Juliet4 4x Magnifier Combo

I did not purchase this combo from Optics Planet; however, the issue will be the same regardless of where these are purchased.
The magnifier has a screw on the bottom which prevents the magnifier being able to flip to the left. The only way this can flip to the left is if spacers are used. And, this package does not include spacers. So, this set up is only good if you are a right handed shooter. I tried using the magnifier flipped to the right, and it is distracting/disorienting. I don't think I could get used to this. For the price of the combo, I don't think I should need to get used to this.
I contacted Sig, and they offered to sell me the spacers. $40 for the magnifier spacers, and $10 for the red dot spacers. Shipping costs are not included, so figure another $10 for shipping. So, if you are a left handed shooter, plan on spending an additional $60 to be able to use this combination.
If the mounts were included, or, if the magnifier could be flipped to the left, I would give this four stars. The glass is clear. The items look nice and well made. This combo would lose a star due to the latch on the red dot. It looks like it is made from cheap material. It's thin, and looks like it could be broken if struck hard (i.e. from a fall or from too much pressure being applied to it). It would probably hold up with "normal" usage. I wouldn't expect it to hold up under rough use. Reticle on the red dot is a little blurry for people with an astigmatism.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • Looks nice
Cons:
  • No spacers
  • Magnifier cannot be flipped to the left
Best Used for:
  • Range use
  • light duty
  • Home Use
Would Recommend: No
