I bought this as a gift for my son. Until recently he was an Infantryman with the Army so he likes reliable well built equipment.
He was very pleased with the quality of the optics and the burly feel of the Vortex Solo. It is a comfortable size for throwing in your pack or clipping to a belt or webbing. For his purposes he was pleased with the 8x36 magnification and the ability to judge distances with the ranging reticle.
The lanyard clip is a little weak though and can release. If using the lanyard I would forget the clip feature and attach the lanyard directly to the body of the monocular via the eyelet to lessen your chances of dropping it. Also the case seemed a little oversized and sloppy, but these are minor concerns. The optical quality and ease of use were his priorities.
Pros: High optical quality. Burly well built feel.
Cons: Lanyard clip releases easily. No lens caps.
