ecberman's Review of Vortex Ranger HD RT 10x50 Tactical Roof Prism Binocular

Great bios. Good light-gathering capability. Excellent clarity. The mil-radian ranging reticle and ranging silhouettes work quite well, and do not distract from direct center-of-visual field viewing. The separate focus rings for diopter and reticle, work very well. Center focus wheel allows rapid/fine focus. Ruggedly constructed with excellent rubber eyecups.

With 50 mm objectives and a roof prism to match, comes weight - these are not meant to ride in your pocket or inside your shirt for quick access/viewing. Where work best when you are set up in a bone-on-bone support position - e.g., prone w/ elbows on ground or sitting with elbows on hunched-up knees in order to properly stabilize the 10x view.

Work very well for long-range scanning and for ranging targets in long range shooting, as a spotter can easily range for the shooter. Due to the binocular vision, these are less tiring to use over prolonged period of time than is a monocular spotting scope and/or rifle scope, for scanning and initial target acquisition and identification.
Pros:
  • Excellent quality backed by the greatest warranty in the business.
Cons:
  • None really.
Best Used for:
  • long range scanning and range to target estimation
