Abercrombie's Review of Walkers X-TRM Ear Muffs

The quality of the headband and ear units is great (I really like and appreciate it!), however, there is just one problem... the sound.

Putting the batteries in, donning the headset and switching the unit on the background sound is a full-time hiss (nauseating). My Howard Leight Impact Sports headset does not have this issue at all.

The directional sound is awful. With my Howard Leight's I can tell exactly where the source of a sound is. I tried with the Walker's and while the sound is amplified I cannot tell where the source or direction of the sound is coming from. It sounds like someone is making the noise on both sides of my ears at the same time and decibels (both sides).

The omni-directional microphones don't give me the improved feedback that I was expecting, to blow the socks off of the Howard Leight's, which is what I was expecting.

Needless to say, this may just be a bad sample of one. Previous Walker's that I have tried impressed me enough to purchase the product on what should be improved over Walker's standard versions, which did not exhibit the issues that I am experiencing with this unit.

These are not only for range use but for on-duty use on night-shifts for critical incidents so that I can hear what is in my environment better. This could include tracking suspects in a rural environment or clearing a structure.

I am hoping that a replacement set will resolve the issue and that it is not a design/production flaw. Will update once another headset has been received. Can't recommend over their standard versions as yet.
