Don's Review of Walkers Silencer Bluetooth Rechargeable Electronic Earbuds

My wife and I were tired of the pressure of electronic ear muffs pressing on the side of our head and glasses, causing much discomfort after hours on the range. Therefore, this was the perfect time to try something new with a scheduled 2-day class at Front Sight (Nevada). After receiving the Silencers, the first thing you want to do is download the free Walker APP online. It was very easy to 'pair' them with our smart phones (Samsung S8) and have full control of the sound volume level, battery state of charge, type of filtering and adjust for each ear or 'lock' for the same listening level on both ears. Pairing is not necessary but why order the Bluetooth version if you are not taking advantage of the feature. Total adjustment can be made without smart phone connection but you can't 'view' the battery state of charge. There is a choice of 3 ear inserts and fins for the best fit; we found the installed MED was about correct. To turn ON, have the silencers in your ears and just hold the TOP button IN on the silencers until you hear the spoken word 'Walker's' then release. You can use your phone to adjust the listening level or without using your phone, you can adjust the level via the 2-buttons marked + or - on each ear piece. Once adjusted, you're good to go! Like any in-ear plug, you hold and compress the foam for a few seconds, insert in your ear and 'hold' in place for about 10-20 seconds to make sure the foam expands in place for a good fit. As far as effectiveness on the range; listening to the range masters instruction was crystal clear on the setting we chose (Clear Voice). There are 3-other settings and the boost level could be effective for hunting; listening for distance step movement or calls from wildlife. All though you can set an automatic turn-off time of 2, 4 or 6 hours (via BT), we turned off this feature and manually made that decision. Noise attenuation was on par with over ear electronic muffs. When most individuals on the range were removing ear-muffs when not needed, we left the silencers in our ears until lunch 4-hours later and the end of the day on the range another 4-hours. Like putting anything in your ears, it's not normal but in this case we both had no problem leaving the silencers in our ears until not needed. After removing from your ears, just drop each silencer in the case for protection and recharging. The rechargeable case can recharge each ear piece several times before it requires being recharged via provided USB cable (charging block not included). There is a RED LED light that illuminates when each ear piece is being charged and turns off when charged. After 4-5 hours of use before removing, our remaining charge level indicated 67%-70% when on volume level 5 (about ½). Therefore, no problem with a full day on the range without recharging. I did not take any phone calls while I worn the Silencers but they should be effect in doing so. Listening to music via your smart phone while you shoot is possible but I find it distracting. Although I can't attest to the real frequency response of this product, live loud music concerts will be my next evaluation. At the setting used (5), there was NO buzzing from electronics. Wind noise was no different than experienced with electronic ear-muffs. Bottom line; yes, they are pricy but you only get one pair of ears! From a performance stand point, we would recommend the Walker's Silencer-BT if you are in the market. Safe shooting!
