These round, polyethylene plastic containers are recommended for use in microbiological procedures requiring an airtight, leakproof seal. The flexible walls of these containers adapt readily to changing conditions, making disassembly and cleaning easier. Once filled, these containers provide a leakproof closure, free from spontaneous leaks during pipette tipping, and fit for easy sampling from a hood or syringe. This size is supplied with a ST stopper closure. To ensure that cultures are not harmed during opening and closing procedures, the syringe tip openings are large enough to provide an adequate seal. After opening, the clamps hold the cover in place to allow the plunger or spigot to be easily removed. Once the spout is removed, the screw cap may be retained by the extended, side-entry loop, still leaving the cover head protruding from the top, for easy sampling from the top. To ensure that cultures are not harmed during the opening and closing procedures, the necks are made as thin as possible, increasing the diameter of the flared base as much as reasonably possible so that the full volume of the well can be sampled through the permeation port. Once the clamps have been installed, the single piece ST closures may be used by turning the container over to gently coax the mixture, allowing it to expand by squeezing the side spouts. To ensure that samples can be economically made, the spouts are fire tested and made of medical grade plastic. Once the heat- welded necks are fully cooled, the vacuum is drawn through the heat-welded vents in the container neck. The necks are made of a polyethylene material and are autoclaved for sterility. The polyethylene material also has a stabilizing effect and improves the quality of the product.
