Most Helpful Positive Review Bushnell Sportsman 4-12x40 AO
I purchased the Sportsman 4-12x40AO scope with the intentions of having a cheap AO scope to try out on my 10/22. I figured that if the performance was unacceptable, then I would relegate it to my magnum air rifle. Well, I mounted it up, and was very impressed with the optics. It has very good con...

Most Helpful Negative Review Horrible Clarity When it Counts
This scope fits nicely in a value budget , and performs well in optimum conditions. However, most practical shooting is done in less than optimal conditions. When the sun angles in on your shot, the lenses become about as clear as a milk jug. When light begins to wane ,the reticle disappears quickly...

I use this as a small spotting scope

by Jimt, from FL, United States Written on March 31, 2025
I quit trying to get this thing sighted in. I maxed out on the trying to bring the cross crosshairs down and it wouldn't move. This scope is junk.
Pros:
  • clear view
  • Clear vision

A Whole Lot of Scope for your Money

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on April 5, 2010
I agree with the above; The quality really Surprised me for a scope in this price range. A Decade ago, a scope made in China was much less quality than Korea, Japan, and Europe. Bushnell's Elites are made in Japan and no doubt, they are the best. But Bushnell's Korean made Scopes were actually surprisingly good in the 80's and 90's and probably even better now. I feel that in the 90's China was struggling with Quality Control; but after buying this scope I am convinced that Bushnell's Chinese Manufacturing Facility has adequate Quality Control; and could very likely be on power with the Korean made scopes. The ring on my Parallax Adjustment came loose; but I fixed it better than the factory with some good RTV Clear Silicon. This scope feels so heavy duty; I swear; it feels more solid than a Bushnell ELite. But we all know Elites are the best. However, IF YOU WANT A SCOPE IN THE CHEAP PRICE RANGE; ALWAYS GO WITH BUSHNELL. YOU'LL NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED. I have two Bushnell buckhorns from the early 90's made in Korea and they are sealed good because they haven't lost any of the Nitrogen Fill; you can tell because if it looses nitrogen the inside of the objective and/or ocular lenses will form a light fog/film; which will not distort your view; but you can notice if you examine the lenses(not actually looking thru the scope). Those two older Buckhorn's I have also have good tracking, and just the sharpest looking duplex reticle you can ask for. Go with Bushnell; if you want a step...

Bushnell

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on January 16, 2010
I bought this scope from Wal-Mart the day I picked up my Marlin 917V back in 2005. It was $70 then and it has been a great addition to my Marlin. Great optical quality for the price, as good as some higher priced BSA I have, and I always prefer the adjustable objective scopes.

Bushnell 4x12x40 Sportsman

by Alan29078, from SC, United States Written on December 31, 2009
Purchased it from my local Walmart for $70. Mounted it on my Savage 93, .17hmr with heavy barrel. Sighted in very quickly, it was very close right out of package. Shooting sub 1" groups at 100 yards and 1.5 - 2" groups at 150+ yards, with bipod and table. I wanted a little more magnification, but 12x seems to be enough. Have only shot about 100 rounds through it and it's still holding zero. Great scope, buy it and you will be happy. It's as good as the $249 Bushnell I have on my Remington 700 30-06.
Pros: Looks great and Works great
Cons: None as of yet
