Great synthetic stock for hunting/outdoor use

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on October 5, 2011
This stock was used to turn a recently refinished Rem 700 (7mm Rem Mag) into a new elk-hunting gun. For those who are too "tacticool" for their own good, this isn't the stock for you. I own or have owned Rem's with McMillan, HS, and B&C stocks and 2 AICSs. This stock doesn't compare to those and it isn't meant to. The Hogue pillar-bed is a great replacement stock for those who want to replace the cheapo SPS stock, or in my case an old, cracked ADL wood stock (youll need bottom metal to make an ADL work with this stock). I ordered a Heavy/Varmint barrel channel and use it on a factory Magnum Sporter barrel and the fit/clearance is perfect. For those that try to use this stock with an actual heavy/varmint barrel, you wont be able to float the barrel without shims and/or some sanding - not that it makes a huge difference on a hunting rifle, but its something I noticed. The finish works well and is not too sticky as Ive seen others say about the Hogue stocks. The texture is nice and the stock is significantly quieter than the hollow-door sound of OEM SPS stocks. On my 7mm Rem Mag, accuracy was around 1-MOA with factory Federal 150-gr. SP rounds. With factory-loaded SPBT rounds, accuracy was around .78 off of sand bags. My only issue with the stock is that it doesnt have an extra tripod stud, something Id gladly pay an extra $5 for. Overall, great value for the money and is a product that will last for many, many years in the field.
Pros: good price, well-made, quiet, good textur...
