My previous Safariland 999 Garrison belt was purchased in late 90's. I still have that belt and surprisingly it still looks to be in great shape (robust and stiff with a minimum of small scratches). It will still support a heavy holstered handgun without it leaning away from your torso. The only problem is that the Velcro has worn, through out the many years of service.
This brings us to the current Safariland 999 Garrison Belt. I was looking forward to my new belt. However, upon receiving it I immediately noticed a substantial difference in weight, quality of material and difference in the width (not 1 1/2", but 1 1/4"). I figure I would give it a chance and wear it. After ninety days of daily wear, the belt showed extreme wear in the material. Multiple spots had started to show considerable wrinkling thus changing the width from a 1 1/4" to 1" where the belt met the various belt loops.
This belt should be consider a fashionable dress belt. In my previous career in law enforcement and weapons retention instructor, I recognize that this would be a very poor choice to carry a holstered handgun due to its ability to maintain the holster close to the torso and without stretching. I would feel less than secure to even wear this belt under a duty belt with belt keepers for the same reason.
Safariland definitely dropped the ball on changing their 999 Garrison belt and I have my old one to definitely prove the difference.
Pros: Quick to put on. No buckles.
Cons: Poor materials...
