I bought this tripod to replace my 3 years old aluminum Manfrotto 190XPROB which has configurable center column orientation (either vertical or horizontal) which is pretty handy for macro photography. The biggest complain I had with this tripod was the weight, load capacity, no solid counter-weight features, and is pretty cold to handle in winter time.
I first noticed Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT in 2009 TIPA Awards list and was immediately attracted with its multi-angle center column feature. Not to also mention that this is a Carbon Fiber tripod, which dampens vibration better than aluminum tripod and also much lighter. If you carry around 20 lbs camera bag, you would like to have lightweight yet sturdy tripod. Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT has everything, and it comes with a lot of goodies, such as tripod bag and stone bag as counter-weight solution.
With all the features that it offers, this tripod is the best bang for the bucks!
Pros: Lightweight, cost effective, multi angle center column, low angle photography, comes with bag and stone bag
