Most Helpful Positive Review Great bang for the buck and a nearly perfect 3-gun/tactical scope.
I bought this Viper PST 1-4X MRAD scope after over a year of reviewing potential 3-gun scopes and am very pleased with the results. It's got super-clear glass, a nice, wide field of view, and best of all, a fantastic reticle that is perfect for rapid transitions between close-up targets and also fo...

Most Helpful Negative Review decent, but not optimal
Bought this viper PST 1-4x and mounted on a Sig 556R (7.62x39). While the glass quality is good and the sight picture crisp, being a prismatic sight, there is some image shift even at the 1x setting, making this potentially not a good option if you want a true two eye open optic... Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 MOA 1-4X

by NDPronghorn, Verified Owner from ND, United States Written on July 22, 2025
Great scope as are all Vortex Optics products I own. Warranty is unbeatable in the industry and this scope exudes quality through and through. These are generally unavailable but Optics Planet once again delivered. The clarity, TMCQ reticle and glass are outstanding. Recommend this scope, Vortex and Optic’s Planet for all your future Optical Products needs.
Pros:
  • Everything is great about this product!
Cons:
  • None noted.

nice glass and turrets

by Jay, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on October 2, 2024
The glass is nice and clear, the turrets are nice and tactile, good strong clicks. The illumination is good from just light enough to know its there to very bright. It is second focal plane so your reticle measurements are accurate at full zoom 4x.
Excellent value for the price.

Best in pricepoint

by Aaron, from PA, United States Written on May 17, 2024
This was my first lvpo, have had it around several years give or take, & I haven't found anything to replace it yet. Made in the Philippines, love the glass, reticle, field of view & generous eyebox(even at 4x). I have & have tried other lvpos with more magnification, but keep coming back to this one. Also great for lightweight builds as it comes in at one lb even, it also takes a beating, illumination is decent, maybe not desert daylight bright, but good. This lvpo punches way above it's weight & I haven't found anything as good in this price range, my only knock on it is the exposed turrets, & also wish the semi circles in the reticle was thinner. This is not a budget scope, but it's offered at a budget price.
Pros:
  • Weight, glass, reticle, durability, fov, eyebox, price
Cons:
  • Exposed turrets
Best Used for:
  • Carbine rifles

Best of Vortex

by Ilya, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on June 24, 2023
This product truly excels in its market segment, particularly considering the exceptional value it provides. It's quite remarkable that this scope is not being sold above its retail price, given that similar products from competing brands are typically offered at twice the cost.

It is also noteworthy that Vortex has discontinued production of the PST model with 1-4 magnification, making this particular model even more precious. Moreover, the lightweight design of this scope sets it apart from the competition, contributing to its suitability for any firearm build. The blend of its rare availability, superior performance, and budget-friendly cost makes this scope a highly attractive option for discerning buyers.

While my personal preference leans towards a scope with a first focal plane (FFP), I recognize that at a 4x magnification, the need for FFP becomes less critical. The use of a Second Focal Plane (SFP) in this scope not only brings significant savings in terms of weight but also adequately meets the requirements for this level of magnification.

What's more, the uncapped turrets are a feature I greatly appreciate. This adds to the practicality of the scope, making it an ideal choice for both novices and seasoned professionals. It is indeed a perfect blend of functionality and accessibility, contributing to its overall practicality.

Outgoing model, great deal for amazing optic

by Nate, from CA, United States Written on June 21, 2023
I got this on sale since I believe it’s the old, outgoing model. It’s very good. Great glass, love the reticle. Worth every penny. I wasn’t sure going with the viper series was that big of a leap, but it definitely is. Would be well worth it at full price, too.

Great low power variable optic!

by CheddarBadger, from WI, United States Written on April 19, 2023
I didn't realize these were still available. I am a great believer in low power variable scopes on AR pattern carbines. 1x4 is in my opinion optimum for a lightweight 16" carbine or SBR. You cannot go wrong with a Vortex Viper.
Pros:
  • Light weight and affordable
Cons:
  • None
