What is the purpose for using this part? Expert Answer

The castle nut is the part that holds the carbine buffer tube to the receiver. You cannot thread the buffer tube until it is snug as that will leave the tube unbalanced. The castle nut allows for locking the tube in place as well as in the correct orientation.
