Utilizing a traditional Japanese Tanto Blade design and forgeing a tough steel blank into an extremely sharp and heavy duty tactical blade was the goal of the Cold Steel founders Lynn Thompson. He wanted an extremely stiff knife that would easily out-punched and out-cut any conventional knife, but was light enough to be easily concealed if desired. His desire to create a very "functional" and well-armored Tanto inspired us to create a Fixed Blade Knives as faithful and deadly as the Japanese originals. The Cold Steel Master Tanto in San Mai was forges out of that inspiration. It's crafted from Japanese VG10 San Mai steel and given a non-traditional Japanese styled handle of crimping pads, finger choil, and a large finger choil. The Tanto blades are commonly used in traditional Samurai and Filipino martial arts, as well as many forms of Filipino and Japanese traditional martial arts.
