Cleaning and maintaining your firearms is one of the most important aspects of being a responsible owner, and having a variety of high-quality cleaning tools and bore mops makes this process much easier. These small attachments connect to the end of standard cleaning rods, allowing you to clean, polish, or dry the bore of your weapon. Since bore mops are absorbent, you can put cleaner or oil on it to get hard-to-reach spaces inside the weapon, or leave the mop dry to remove any excess oil that you don't want to leave sitting inside. These are especially useful for black powder firearms, as unburnt powder can quickly accumulate in the bore and cause the weapon to misfire or jam. If you're unsure which bore mop you need, here are some answers to frequently asked questions.image

FAQ:

What is a bore mop used for?

A bore mop is a tool that makes cleaning the bore of your weapon much easier. Since the bore is a tight space, it can be difficult to get inside of it with a rag and cleaning supplies to remove carbon buildup, powder, and lead. This is where a cotton bore mop comes in. You attach it to the end of your cleaning rod and push it through the barrel to remove any debris inside. You can also add an oil, lubricant, or cleaning chemical to the cotton before doing so to loosen up the accumulation, making the process easier.

What size bore mop do I need for .223 caliber weapons?

Even though .223 and 5.56 ammo are different cartridges, you can use the same size bore mop for cleaning weapons chambered in either caliber. This is because they are the same size. The difference in the cartridges comes from the pressure they produce when fired, which doesn't affect which tools you need to clean the firearm.

What is bore cleaning?

Bore cleaning is the process of removing lead, carbon, black powder, and other contaminants from the inside of a weapon's barrel, also known as the bore. This is a necessary part of owning and operating weapons, as excess debris can cause the weapon to malfunction or misfire. The particles can even interfere with the barrel's rifling, throwing off the trajectory of your shot. By using the right supplies, such as cleaning patches, bore mops, and lubricants, you can ensure your weapons fire accurately each time.
