Taper bullet shell holders to exact length with this Lee .38 S&W Case Length Gauge & Shell Holder. Once you've loaded your brass into the buttstock adapter, trim the buttstock off to exact length using the dial as a trim guide. Then trim the buttstock to the appropriate length using the blade of the stripping tool. This accomplishes two important functions. First, it squares the mouths of your brass cases, as well as trims their lengths to correct SAAMI specifications. Second, it gives you the ability to trim the excess length from the case necks after the fact with the Lee Case Length Guide & Shell Holder. Once the necks of your brass are trimmed, you can use a case neck expander or densifier to convert the cases to bullet sized cases by simply replacing the case necks with newly sized cases before re-canning them with the Trimmer/Sizing Gauge/Shell Holder. This tool is also useful for trimming .38 S&W cases, which often get trimmed too long for benefit from a trimmer/sizer when reloading. Second, use the shell holder to hold the case firmly in place while the trimmer is being used. Second, use a case neck expander to expand the mouths of .38 S&W cases by the necks, then trim away using the gauge as a guide, then trim away using the shell holder. You'll be able to achieve a match grade cut on a consistent basis, greatly improving accuracy. Second, use the case mouth expander with the gage on your Lee Case Length Gauge and Case Trimmer Cutter to square the mouths of .38 S&W cases.
