Changing the hand guard doesnt require you to change the gas tube. If you're using the same barrel then the same gas system is the same. If you're changing the barrel then you'll need to know which gas system length the new barrel uses. If it's different from what you currently have then purchase accordingly.

The length of the gas tube will be fine but you might have to change the gas block profile depending on the type of rail. I have read that the carbine length gas tubes on the M&P Sport 2 have the gun over gassed, you might want to increase the length of your tube to soften the way your gun shoots. If it is a free float rail the low profile gas block will still be under your 12.5 rail, if you are installing a free float rail.
