Great scope - Nikon Monarch III 4-16x50 Rifle Scope

I lucked out and got the $100 instant rebate. Mounted on a new Ruger Magnum Hunter (300 win mag). The scope works as advertised and exceeded my expectations. Very easy to adjust crosshairs and focus. Before ordering, I had done some comparisons at local shops, and my impression was the Monarch 3 with BDC had equal or better light capture and clarity than the Zeiss or Leupold scopes in the similar price range, several hundred $$ more than the Nikon. The dots on the Leupold LR reticle are so tiny, I could barely see them, same with the Zeiss mildots. The BDC reticle has small circles that are very easy to see and use.

My only complaint is that the lens caps included with the scope are junk. Mine won't even stay closed when the rifle is not moving, so would be useless for lens protection in the field. For range and storage, I use a rubber band that stretches the full length of the scope and keeps them closed. I will need to find replace with something better. Nikon should either improve them or not bother to include them and maybe shave a few bucks off the price of the scope.
Pros: Clarity, features, ease of use, price. Great service by Optics Planet, as usual.
Cons: Lens covers are junk. Won't stay closed.
