RaginCajun76's Review of Plano 800 Series Gun Guard AR15 Case, 42.5in

I purchased this Plano Molding 800 Series Gun Guard 42.5" AR15 Case for a new Windham 5.56mm HBC rifle. I wanted a case providing good protection, was large enough to fit my AR with a vertical handle and a 1-6x24 scope, yet not huge in size. This case fit my needs perfectly.
This case comes with comfortable carry handles and also has a removable shoulder strap that I keep in the zippered magazine compartment. I really like the fact that the side zippered cover makes the 5 magazine pouches less obvious.

The zippers are very smooth and seem sturdy. The carry handles are well stitched and extend at least to the bottom of the case. I can't tell if the are continuous around the bottom but they appear to adequately hold the case. Both ends, and the lower part of the case have a rubberized layer on the fabric. Padding is more than adequate for a carry case, but not so thick that it gets bulky.

My two, truly minor complaints/suggestions are:
1) if I center my AR in the case it doesn't carry level and puts a strain on your wrist. I do know the rifle is barrel-heavy. I found if I moved the rifle butt all the way to the large end it carries much better.
2) there are no interior tie-down straps for the rifle. Not really necessary as I'm careful with it but they'd still be nice to have. Just FYI.

All in all, this is a great case and I would recommend it to others.
Pros:
  • Big enough, but not too big.
  • Well made with good materials.
  • Covered, 5-magazine storage compartment.
Cons:
  • No interior tie-down straps - Minor
Best Used for:
  • Just about everyone.
