Want a no-nonsense BDU Patrol Cap, this one by Propper may fit the bill, literally. Short stiff brim enables shading from oncoming lights or sun with a tilt of the head. At this price, when on sale, one can afford to keep a couple around for various jobs, even an upgraded painters hat to keep drips off the safety glasses when under the paint. Be sure to measure your head with a tape rule, and order proper size, as there is no adjustment feature on this hat, and no elasticity. One thing you might do is spray it with clear waterproofing, as it will otherwise simply absorb rain, and the cloth's weave is tight enough to serve as a rain hat, and if brim is reversed, will keep drips from doing down your neck.
