Tjkiller's Review of Pulsar Thermion XM38 Thermal Rifle Scope
If you are a die hard predator hunter this is the way to go. Ive messed with atns, and checked out a few others. The xm series is all you need. The picture in picture is a game changer. Run on base magnification, small window on 8 or 12x. Im 6 for 6 on coyotes, bang flop each one, 100-160yds. Could easily reach farther. 22-250. The controls are easy. All the different contrasts a helpful , certain ones work better than others in certain conditions. Midwest or out west yhis scope is perfect. Here in the east it works well.. my hope is they come out with an xm with a lower base magnification for those rapid aquisition under 100yd shots. The xm38 fov is a little limited but is completely doable. Lower base mag and higher res are the ways to increase fov. Higher res costs
$$ . Battery life is ok. 2 batteries, buy an extra. Can be charged on the fly with cell phone battery pack, micro usb. Buy long battery, should have came with it imo. It will fit axion too. Records and comes out of standby mode at the touch of a easily found button. Overall, no complaints, almost perfect. Pulsar stands by their stuff so no worries there. Atn equivelent costs less, and has longer battery life. I think they are a good option for the broke hunter... thermion is the way to go tho. Overall PIP is what really sets it apart. More reticle and contrast options too i think. The one shot zero is basically the opposite of sighting in a conventional scope. Not harder or easier as long as u understand it.
Pros:
PIP, multiple battery options, many contrasts and reticles.cost. extreme range capable
Extreme range capable with pictur in picture, battery options, easy controls, very effective, price is right.
Cons:
Limited FOV.
Best Used for:
Predator hunting mideest or west
