Legacy Reviewer's Review of Tdi Arms Bottom Rail Mounted Picatinny/Weaver Tactical Bipods

I specifically bought this bipod for a vz.58 tactical rifle and have been very pleased with its fit, finish and performance. It is extremely rugged and solidly-built, and the coated stainless-steel construction resists corrosion as well as oblique stresses better than any other bipod I've seen without an attendant weight penalty.

I especially like the QD leg feature, which enables the base mount to stay in place where needed for quick re-deployment of the legs, but which also creates more room on the handguard at a moment's notice.

When the legs are in the folded position, there is enough room between them to comfortably maintain a secure grip on the handguard or to install a fore grip if you should choose to mount the bipod to fold backwards under the handguard rather than forward. Also, the cradle-type design of the base mount will bring the legs up higher than normal to a postion alongside the lowermost section of the handguard when folded, ensuring a very compact set-up.

The above-mentioned design features make the Tdi an ideal choice for tactical weapons which carry a lot of hardware on the Picatinny rails on the handguard, and where space becomes an issue. Depending on the individual handguard Picatinny rail and accessory installation configuration, the high folded position of the legs may cause interference with those accessories. One solution is to mount the Tdi on a short Picatinny rail mount adaptor of the appropriate height ( such as a Leaper's 3-slot mount with 0.5"/0.83"/1.0" height ) to obtain the necessary clearance to the bottom runs of side-mounted accessories without sacrificing too much of the overall compactness in the folded position. Another is to re-locate the accessories along the side rails to obtain the desired clearances. It will probably take a little extra work and juggling to achieve an optimum position that satisfies the requirements of accessory clearance, bipod positioning ( especially when folded ), ergonomics and accessibility to the controls on the accessories ( such as the on/off switch on a laser sight or flashlight ).

For those of you used to having the extra features of pan and tilt in a bipod, please be aware that the Tdi has neither. It was designed as a full mil-spec or better bipod for battlefield tactical and CQB combat, scenarios that generally do not require the extra features.

All in all, this is truly outstanding value for money when used for the right applications.

Pros: High Quality Construction Throughout, Rugged, Durable, Quick-Detachable Legs, Wide Range Of Height Adjustments, Compact, Conformal, Positive Locking In The Open, Closed And Extended Positions
