Crusty Grunt's Review of Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 7mm-08 Remington 140 grain Fragmenting Polymer Tip Brass Cased Centerfire Rifle Ammunition

These are not the same “Ballistic Silver Tip” ammo available in previous years. They do not have the Black Lubalox coated bullets that I have been shooting since 2005. Optics Planet still shows them with the Lubalox coating in their description. Winchester still shows the black coated bullet in their images but removed the words Lubalox from their description. I purchased 3 boxes Nov 2024 believing they would be the same as in the past. Prior to purchasing them I saw that Nosler stills offers the loose Ballistic Silver Tip bullets (I just received an order directly from Nosler and will reload them once I figure out a recipe). You can’t return Ammo so I’m out the ~ $150 for a product I wouldn’t have purchased if Optics Planet’s description was accurate. I contacted Winchester and they say that the Lubalox coated bullets are no longer available from Nosler. I sent them photos of the boxes of loose bullets that I just received from Nosler and my receipt. After that I have heard nothing from Winchester. Hopefully these will also shoot good. I just thought I would inform those who love these bullets like I do. I have been shooting them In my Model 7 in 7mm-08 since 2005.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • Not the same bullets used on the ammo as in previous years.
