Does this device require a subscription fee

Yes. According to the manufacturer website findmespot.com creating an online profile account and selecting a service plan is required to use this device. Currently the website indicates there are two types of plans starting at $12 a month. One plan is monthly and requires a one year contract, the other is a one last contract at $15.
