Corning Primaria Labware provides a unique alternative to tissue culture treated surfaces. Corning develops and commercializes tissue culture treated surfaces that, in effect, create charged cell surfaces. Primaria labware incorporates permanent, stable modifications of the polystyrene surface that incorporates a mixture of anionic and cationic functional groups. These groups attract a variety of cells, inhibit apoptosis, and enhance differentiation. Many primary cells and certain cell lines that grow poorly on conventional, negatively charged, standard tissue culture treated surfaces attach readily to Corning Primaria labware. These include tumor cells, endothelial cells, and hepatocytes. Corning developed the technique in a partnership with Life Technologies, which provides additional resources and support for the engineering and scientific communities. Corning develops and commercializes Primaria labware that addresses some of the special needs of these unique cell types.
