Product Category Description:
Designed for hospital use, BD Vacutainer Venous Blood Collection Tubes are for hematology, coagulation and pathology procedures. These sterile, single-use blood collection tubes are designed to provide a tight fit with most autohemalytical procedures. Many hospitals have a venepuntical center with a vacuum pump and a blood draw tube with a vacuum pump handle; however, BD Vacutainer Venous Blood Collection Tubes without a vacuum pump are still used in traditional methods with a pinhole in the center of the tube. These BD Vacutainer Venous Blood Collection Tubes are built to last and provide a standard set of operating characteristics for their intended use. The vacuum condition applied to the inside of the tube ensures a constant vacuum throughout the life of the tube. Additionally, the inside of the tube is lightly coated with a silica gel to promote separation of red blood cells from white blood cells. These sterile vacuum blood collection tubes have a BD Hemogard* closure, which prevents blood on the stopper or around the outer rim of the tube and blood splattering upon opening. The vacuum pump uses a heparinized needle to draw blood into the vacuum within the tube. Once the vacuum is applied, the blood is sucked in to the interior of the vacuum tube where it remains until the stopper is pushed out. The remaining blood then moves through the filter within the filtering bag to the outside, where it remains as a liquified serum or is centrifuged to remove the remaining serum. The vacuum system prevents partial vacuum in the tube by applying a vacuum pump, which draws blood into the vacuum within the tube and then vacuums it out at an even slower rate. The dried blood sediment is then automatically vacuumed into the cupped area of the tube where it remains until the stopper is pushed out. The resulting serum or liquid remains are then filtered and centrated. The filter is then centrifugal vacuumed to remove remaining fibrinogen and platelet contaminates the sample. The filter is filtered to prevent vacuum build-up. Tubes meet US FDA requirements for single-use only.
