The Bel-Art Funnel TABLE-TOP Buchner 146290000 is made with heavy-duty breathable spun filter paper discs which allow the operator to centrate non-hazardous glass or plastics with greater efficiency. Used with Bel-Art Buchner Funnels, the plastic funnels are extremely lightweight, highly transparent and hygienic. Funnels attach to a centrifuge by a hose connector and a bung valve. During centrifugation, the concentrate, which is now called "grave,' collects in a catch pan and the sediment collects in the catch pan. Grave separation increases as the concentration of light solids (e.g. sugar, salt, pepper) and color changes as the concentration of heavy metals (e.g. gold, mercury etc.) increases. Funnels with removable perforated plates, such as those used in the Bel-Art Buchner Funnel, are used with centrifugal force to prevent cake collapse. Funnels with fixed plates, such as the 'regular' perforated plates, must be used with a cloth or paper filter.
