Devoted adze users know that a good adze is arguably the most important tool in terms of making the right cuts on the ice. Making perfect, consistent edges is often the result of adze users spending way too much time at the adze working the ice. The X-Light is a compact adze that can be carried year round via the classic axe or the recently developed penknife-shaped tool. The adzes tapered tip makes them excellent for most adzes and they screw together easily with the adze shaft bolted to the shaft end cap. Very popular for crevassed ice, the X-Light is a handy tool when only a minimal amount of adze is required. Non-technical users may like the sharpened-edged flat side of the tool (cams of all shapes and sizes work well), but for the most part the X-Light is a very conventional adze. In some cases the adze can make an edge by slicing or scraping the ice against a rock or tree trunk with the edge facing face of the tool. The rounded tip also prevents sticking in some situations. You decide what works best for the day's precipitation forecast or what might be a more stable base for your adze.
