In the absence of beta-rays, X-OMAT AR (XAR) film is one of the most commonly used films in the U.S. For this general-purpose film, X-OMAT AR has lower sensitivity and longer exposure times compared to BioMax MR and BioMax MS films. XAR-5 film is a double-coated emulsion film suitable for manual and automated processing. A brown etch enhances the signal and makes the film more visible to the eye under certain uv radiation densities. With this general purpose film, working with beta-rays, one or more gamma rays, beta-rays, X-OMAT AR film provides fairly broad anti-fade sensitivity and requires longer development times in the X-OMAT AR instrument.
