It is generally made from a lower quality steel, but with much greater strength and fatigue resistance than the inferior cast iron or steel extractors offered by Smith & Wesson. Ed Brown Products offers the upgraded Extractor as a replacement for the plastic OEM part, and as a drop-in replacement for the MIM part in the factory M&P 2.0. This is due to the added strength and rigidity that the metal extractor affords. Ed Brown Products extractors will not work with M&Ps prior to 2.0 series.
