Fiber optic shotgun sights are definitely worth getting. Fiber optic sights gather light in all conditions except total darkness. This makes them much easier to aim than the front bead sight that comes standard on most shotguns. They’re also much less expensive than other shotgun sight systems like Red Dot Sights, and they never need batteries or exposure to UV to work!
This comes down to a matter of preference and your primary use. If you need Shotgun Sights for bright light conditions, like hunting or target shooting, then fiber optic sights will typically be better. If you are looking for a more tactical setup, then you may want to consider a tritium front sight and rear sight set since they are more durable and glow in low-light conditions (even total darkness). Fiber optics offer more accuracy and rapid target acquisition at longer ranges than tritium, which is another factor to consider.
Most Shotgun Barrels only come with a front bead sight, sometimes combined with a vent rib along the top of the shotgun barrel, and this is what would be considered a shotgun iron sight system. Slug guns and many tactical shotguns will come with designs like traditional rifle sights, with a front post and corresponding rear notch-style or ghost ring sights. These are generic sights that are only steel unless you buy a model with upgraded fiber optic or tritium sights. There is really no scenario where iron sights would be better than fiber optic sights.
