Since 2016, Fort Scott Munitions has been dedicated to providing excellent ammo to shooters. While they originally planned to serve residents in Southeast Kansas, they now ship their high-quality, in-demand rifle and handgun ammo to shooters across the U.S., and we are proud to offer their products on OpticsPlanet. From standard centerfire ammunition to subsonic and +P rounds, Fort Scott Munitions makes their mark by using their tumble upon impact (TUI) design with solid copper bullets. Unlike traditional lead bullets-which expand and fracture after impact-solid copper options are designed to start tumbling, causing more damage to soft targets. This makes them perfect for tactical applications, home defense, and general carrying situations.image

FAQ:

What are +P rounds?

While many people assume that the +P designation for ammo is an indication that it is stronger or more lethal, this isn't always true. Instead +P refers to the round being overpressured compared to the average, accepted amount of pressure for the caliber. This results in more velocity after firing. While this can sometimes allow the round to penetrate further through a target, it can also cause it to expand faster, resulting in less penetration. The exact result depends on the type of handgun ammo you are using, such as hollow point, solid copper, or full metal jacket. However, since the ammo has more pressure, this also means that it generally produces more recoil when firing.

Why is subsonic handgun ammo beneficial?

The primary advantage of using subsonic ammunition is that it produces less noise when firing. While it is still extremely loud, and you should still wear hearing protection when firing, it is not as loud as standard ammo. It is particularly useful for calibers that are 9mm or smaller, as these rounds don't have as much powder in them. It is also best when paired with a suppressor, which further reduces the amount of noise your weapon makes when firing. The drastically quieter operation can make hunting small game easier, as well as prevent hearing issues if you practice with your firearm often.
