One of the safest and most reliable solutions for determining dissolved oxygen content is the use of a hydrogen ion cal electrode. When the electrode is immersed in a liquid, a column of gas, and a sample of gas, the electrode will give a constant reading and stabilize the solution. When the gas is quenched, the electrode will put out a known current, which will be proportional to the solution dissolved oxygen content. The current reading will be proportional to the solution ion in the sample. With this type of sensor, there is no need for a known volume of water to dilute the water to a specified accuracy.
