This Baum and specific gravity hydrometer is used for determining the density of heavy liquids, based on Baum's constant. The bubbler extends into the neck of the vessel to prevent a buckling problem with distillation procedures. These hydrometers are graduated in both metric and customary units of measure. The bubbler extends into the neck of the vessel to allow for accurate and reproducible measurements. The low-viscosity liquid prevents acrid smoke when the gas is quenched by a mercury vapor lamp. The Baum constant provides a standard reference point anywhere the liquid level changes. The bubbler must be affixed to the volume scale or the hydrometer; otherwise the bubbles will be too low to allow a reading. Ordering Information: Baum constants are imprinted on the hydrometer body. The glass body has been acid-washed and the volume scale is etched with the volume scale.![]()
