Pushing air out from a stirring bar causes the stirring bar to act as a centrifugal force. The force developed is sufficient to lift a polyethylene pellet off of the bottom of a test tube by capillary action. When less force is required to lift a heavier object, the resulting lift is referred to as an overflow. For this reason, the lifting force of an overflow is referred to as turbulence. In a vacuum, the overflow of a stirring bar creates a vacuum effect. The overflow of a magnetic stirring bar causes a turbulence and a lifting effect. The overflow of a magnetic stirring bar causes a vacuum to be formed at the top of the vessel. When the overflow of a magnetic stirring bar ceases, the remaining liquid is referred to as turbidity. A turbidity build-up in the liquid cannot be removed. A nut keeps the overflow tube open so that it can be removed observing the bubbles that form on the top of the vessel.![]()
