The Knives of Alaska Jeager D2 Cub Combo Set is a powerful duo now offered as a super-sharp, 2fer deal. Both knives from Knives of Alaska are made with D2 steel, are double-drawn, and have a cryogenically-treated blade, and are set in an attractive, oiled leather sheath. Both knives feature a drop point blade (won't roll blades like a sheepsfoot)with a straight edge. The point of the Blade is more rounded than a traditional Hawkbill, which many experts feel is the most practical size and shape for a hunting knife. The difference between a Jaeger and Cub is that a Jaeger has a larger, curved blade (jaegeresque)with a stronger "choil" (guard). A curved blade (jaegeresque) means that the user has more surface area to get the job done, and therefore, a more effective one. The difference between a Jaeger and Cub is that the bear has a "serrated" blade (wider, shorter, sharper, finer, duller) edge (hawkbill, cougar, etc.,) is that the ground (peened)in the blade (stripped from the grinding process) has been polished, and now has a non-stick coating. The difference is that the non-stick coating is thinner than the coating, and will rub off on the next good game. The difference between the two is in the handle, as the grip is substantially larger (surface area is not greatly affected by the weight of the knife) and therefore lessens the weight of the handle. The handle is shaped so that the knife can be palm or hand was held, and therefore the thumb and fingerholes are easily accessible. Some hunters carry this kind of combination for its versatility and both serve as superbly effective small tools, while the handle is shaped so that finger pressure is easily applied. It is honed with oil and grained with a lanyard. The quality is in the materials, and workmanship, Knives of Alaska are cut from heat-treated D2 steel and cryogenically treated. This provides a superior cutting edge and sharper longer life.
