Test tubes, microhematocrit tubes, and other disposable screw cap tubes have a modified cap shape to allow for frequent opening and closing. The modified cap allows frequent lid removal without contaminating the sample. Tubes feature a longer neck to accommodate a wider variety of racks and to allow easier insertion of the tube racks into the centrifuge rotor. They are color-coded with an orange-colored standard cap and a color-coded polypropylene insert to indicate the tube's classification. Color coding is based on tube size; the color coding does not apply to the tube necks. The color-coded standard cap and inserts allow the color coding of samples without opening the screw cap. The screw cap tubes are supplied with a wide variety of cap colors and styles to match the cap material and color of the product being tested. The coding also allows for easy documentation of centrifugation runs with many different tube types and lots.
