Taming the SpectraReader GC/MS to a clear background is critical to ensure accurate, reproducible results. Syringes contaminated with lipophilic (water soluble) dyes and other foreign matter must be discarded prior to staining or banding. Before the Syringe-Tester can be used, the syringe must be sterile and free of debris. Exposure to room temperature and humidity should be avoided until the syringe has been thoroughly sterile. Prior to attempting to plug the syringe tip, dilute the syringe with a sterile syringe to prevent cross contamination. The syringe tip must be kept very clean and dry at all times. Exposure to strong acids and alkalis can damage the tip. Therefore, the syringe must be kept as clean as possible. It is recommended that ethanoic acid (ethyl alcohol) is used to sterilize the tip. Before attempting to inject the syringe into a patient, carefully remove the protective sleeve from the syringe tip. Then carefully insert the needle into the syringe using a fork or something similar to prevent injury to the tip. After the syringe is plunged into the tapered mouth, a syringe plunger is placed on the tip of the syringe shaft to prevent damage to the tip. After the syringe is gently rocked to a stop, the syringe can be blown free with the supplied reagent syringe. A sterile filter prevents cross contamination of the compound by eliminating the air trapped in the syringe tip. A representative cutout of the Syringe tip is visible through the inkwell of the syringe (see image). Syringe not included.![]()
