The Lee Ram Primer Pocket Swage Tool Set features a hardened steel swaging pin that swages the primer pocket without damaging the brass case or damaging the primer. Because this tool swage's the metal of the pocket is not damaged but just pressed flat this swaging method is much preferred. Soft steels bend less which enables you to swage more brass. Also the softer metals of tungsten carbide and carbon steel have a very low thermal expansion which allows you to swage faster and with less force. The side of the tungsten carbide is much stronger than other metals so this swage method can be used on softer metals such as copper and aluminum. Another benefit of this swaging method is that the tungsten carbide is much less prone to heat up and can be used at slightly elevated temperatures. So when the swaging tool is in the use stage it is important to press hard into the tungsten carbide to clean the swage shaft. If you use a ram style chamber you need the special swage tool.
