You can remove the buttstock but it will not look goog. you can purchase the pistol grip by itself

This fits perfectly onto Mossberg 500 shotguns. Quality is great. Recoil mechanism works well. Pistol grip is a good size and shape. Well worth the money.

The only reason I give it a 4 star and not a 5 is because the recoil pad it comes with is not that comfortable. Other than that it was easy to install and real sturdy. For the money it's worth it
